Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has resumed his duties at the Labour House following his visit to the police.

On Thursday morning, Ajaero arrived at the Force Headquarters in Abuja with prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and other supporters. The police had summoned Ajaero for questioning regarding an investigation into potential terrorism financing. This development sparked a heated reaction from the NLC and various labor organizations, who have accused the Federal Government of trying to intimidate labor leaders.

Recall that 11 days ago, Joe Ajaero, was summoned by the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police. In a show of unity, a broad coalition including leaders from industrial unions affiliated with the NLC, workers, civil society groups, lawyers, and other supporters, accompanied Ajaero to the police headquarters on Thursday morning.

It was reported that NLC had instructed its state councils across the country to organize peaceful marches to local police commands and conduct prayer sessions in support of Ajaero and the labor movement during the challenging period.

Additionally, the Nigeria Union of Journalists had rallied behind the cause, and urged its Federal Capital Territory chapter to mobilize journalists in Abuja to stand in solidarity with the NLC and its President at the Force Headquarters.
