Six people lost their lives in a devastating accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway early Friday morning.

The incident, which occurred near Verony, Ogere, involved a Toyota Sienna van and a truck. According to a statement by Mrs. Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ogun State, the accident happened around 7:40 a.m.

The Toyota Sienna, with registration number EPE 692 EL, collided with a truck that fled the scene after the crash, making it difficult to identify. Initial investigations indicate that excessive speed on the part of the Sienna’s driver led to the vehicle ramming into the rear of the moving truck.

The crash involved nine people—two men and seven women. Tragically, two men and four women died on the spot, while three other women sustained injuries. The injured were promptly taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to the FOS morgue in Ipara.

Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin of the FRSC, Ogun State, expressed sorrow over the incident, noting that the crash could have been avoided with greater caution and adherence to traffic regulations. He urged motorists to maintain full concentration while driving and to strictly follow road safety guidelines.
