In a brutal escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russia launched a massive wave of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, targeting major cities including Kyiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv.
The assault, which occurred as the new school year was set to begin, resulted in multiple injuries, widespread damage, and sparked fears among residents who were forced to seek refuge in bomb shelters.
The Ukrainian officials noted that Russia fired over 35 missiles, including ballistic and cruise missiles, and 23 drones at various Ukrainian cities.
The Ukrainian air force reported successfully intercepting many of these projectiles, but the attacks still caused significant harm.
In Kyiv, at least two people were injured from falling debris, with multiple fires breaking out in residential areas and damage reported to homes and infrastructure.

In Sumy, which borders Russia, the situation was even more dire, with 18 people injured, including six children, and several high-rise buildings and an educational facility destroyed.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, also faced severe attacks, with a residential building and other structures damaged in the industrial sector.
The latest barrage is part of an ongoing cycle of violence, with Ukraine having launched a significant drone attack on Russian targets over the weekend, targeting a refinery and power station deep within Russian territory.
The conflict continues to intensify, with both sides suffering heavy losses and civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for increased support from Western allies, urging them to lift restrictions on long-range weaponry to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
