The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has announced plans for a nationwide protest  across the country from September 15, in opposition to the recent hike in price of petrol.

This is in response to the recent surge in fuel prices and dissatisfaction with the leadership of Mele Kyari, Director General of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. NANS is demanding an immediate rollback of the fuel price increase and the removal of Kyari from his post.

The student body has pledged that the protest will be conducted peacefully and lawfully, emphasizing their intent to adhere to legal protocols.

In preparation for the protest, NANS has formally informed key security agencies, including the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Chief of Defence Staff, and all state governors, about their planned actions. The association is keen to ensure that all stakeholders are prepared and that the protest remains orderly.

Also in the South-South, the fuel price which was formally N683, will be going for N933/liter, in the South-West, buyers will be purchasing the commodity from N890 -N895 as against the former price of N640-N645 per liter.

In Edo State (South-South) the recommended price for petrol is N910 as against the initial price of N660, while in Kano and Kaduna the pump price is pegged at N939.

However in FCT, Keffi and environs, the fuel price skyrocketed from N668 to N918 per liter, while in Akwanga the current price is pegged at N919 per liter.

In the North Central fuel is selling between N920 and N930.
