The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has announced plans to host a five-day research exhibition to showcase the latest innovations in research and development.

Scheduled to begin on November 17, the event will bring together a diverse group of researchers, inventors, and creators to present their pioneering projects and visionary ideas.

Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education shared insights on the upcoming exhibition, emphasizing ongoing extensive consultations with various institutions and organizations. These efforts are geared towards attracting partners and stakeholders interested in participating and discovering new technologies.

The minister highlighted that TETFund is purposefully organizing the fair to allow interested researchers, inventors, and creators to showcase their technologies free of charge. Additionally, the event is open to the general public, encouraging widespread participation.

“In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, which mainly aims at rebooting the economy through the massive generation of jobs, creation of wealth, and the improvement of the general welfare of Nigerians, TETFund is organising a strategic ‘Research Fair’ to gather and showcase many of the concluded practical research results and technologies that can be manufactured and are scalable and also to encourage Nigerians,” Mamman said.

Echoing the minister’s statement, TET Fund’s Executive Secretary, Arch. Sonny Echono expressed deep gratitude to the Minister for spearheading the initiative. He emphasized that the fair is open to all Nigerians, including research institutes, private inventors, and digital creators.

“It is not limited to our beneficiary institutions. So, research institutes, private inventors, and digital creators, if you know you have done anything that will lead to the creation of jobs, the development of products and services, or the improvement of the lives of our people, come and showcase,” Echono added.

Tertiary Education Trust Fund, is a scheme established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2011 to disburse, manage, and monitor education tax to government-owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The TETFUND scheme was formed as a product of the Education Tax Act of 1993. This Act repeals the Education Tax Act Cap. E4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Education Tax Fund Act No. 17, 2003 and establishes the Tertiary Education Trust Fund charged with the responsibility for imposing, managing and disbursing the tax to public tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Before the establishment of the scheme in 2011, government-owned tertiary institutions were poorly funded. The scheme was designed to improve the management of funds disbursed to these institutions.
