The Department of State Services, DSS, has granted administrative bail to Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, following his earlier detention.

His release was confirmed on Monday night by pro-democracy activist and African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who shared the news via a tweet.

Sowore posted on X.com (formerly Twitter), “BREAKING: The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail.”

Ajaero’s detention had sparked concerns and discussions, but his release indicates that further legal proceedings are likely to follow under the conditions of the bail.

Credible News recalls that Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, on Monday morning arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Ajaero, who was on his way to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official engagement, was taken into custody early Monday morning.
It was confirmed that Ajaero was handed over to the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, for further questioning. Sources indicate that Ajaero was scheduled to attend a Trade Union Congress, TUC, conference in the UK.

This arrest comes after Ajaero has been under heightened scrutiny by security agencies in recent weeks. On August 20, he responded to a summon from the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, of the Nigerian Police Force, following allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

There are strong indications that authorities are preparing to bring multiple charges, including extortion, alleged links to wanted individuals, and displaying a confrontational stance towards law enforcement agencies against the embattled NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

The credible sources, who requested anonymity, disclosed that Ajaero’s arrest was unrelated to NLC matters or labour activities.

“It was for personal reasons involving fraudulent activities perpetrated by the NLC President,” one source stated.
