In a significant breakthrough, the Nigerian Army has announced the capture of a high-profile terrorist leader, Husseini Usman, in Ganawuri village, located in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A post on the army’s official X account disclosed that troops stationed in Plateau State apprehended Usman on September 11, acting on credible intelligence.

It noted that the troops also seized weapons and essential supplies used by the terrorists, further tightening the noose around criminal elements hiding in the forests.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has commended the troops for their unwavering commitment and urged them to sustain the offensive operations to flush out terrorists and criminal elements from their enclaves,’’ the post read.

Usman, who was on the army’s wanted list, reportedly confessed to masterminding multiple deadly attacks in the region, including a recent assault on Ganawuri village, where four civilians tragically lost their lives. He also admitted to his involvement in a local kidnapping syndicate responsible for the abduction of two individuals.

In a separate operation, the troops swiftly responded to a kidnapping attempt in Kyaram village, Kanam Local Government Area, successfully rescuing two victims from the abductors.

The army also reported successful operations in other parts of the country. In Borno State, troops ambushed terrorists moving from the notorious Sambisa Forest to the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area. After an intense firefight, two terrorists were neutralized.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops stormed a terrorist hideout in Gobarawa Forest, Birnin Gwari. The terrorists fled in disarray upon sighting the advancing forces, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and five motorcycles.

The military remains committed to rooting out terrorism and tightening the noose on criminal elements as it continues its aggressive nationwide operations.
