The Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has announced the creation of the Directorate of Energy Security and the appointment of Ojukaye Flag-Amachree as its new Director.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Zakari Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communication for ONSA, on Tuesday in Abuja. The establishment of the Directorate is part of the government’s effort to ensure a stable, sustainable, and secure energy supply for Nigeria. The new directorate will focus on areas such as policy coordination, infrastructure protection, data management, risk advisory, and fostering strategic alliances in the energy sector.
“The appointment underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening energy security and resilience, while addressing supply chain concerns. The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu congratulates Flag-Amachree on this appointment,” Mijinyawa said.
Flag-Amachree brings over 20 years of experience in business, politics, and energy sector engagement, with a notable background in leadership across both the public and private sectors, particularly in the Niger Delta. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing national energy security initiatives, enhancing community participation in protecting Nigeria’s energy resources, and promoting energy sustainability for both the short and long term.

Flag-Amachree will collaborate with key stakeholders, including government ministries, security agencies, energy regulators, international partners, and community leaders, to address Nigeria’s present and future energy challenges.
Holding degrees in management and an alumnus of the Lagos Business School, Flag-Amachree’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bolster energy security and address supply chain issues.
The National Security Adviser is a senior official in the cabinet of the President of Nigeria who manages national security on behalf of the President and serves as his chief advisor on all matters that are vital to the survival of Nigeria. The position is a statutory member of the Presidency, National Security Council and Federal Executive Council. The National Security Adviser heads ONSA, which is responsible for the leadership, management and capacity development of the security architecture of the Nigeria.
