Malawi has officially launched the E-Justice Program, aimed at enhancing access to legal services through digital transformation. This initiative is set to revolutionize the way justice is delivered in the country, particularly benefiting marginalized communities and individuals in remote areas.
The E-Justice Program will introduce electronic filing systems, virtual court hearings, and online portals, streamlining legal processes and reducing the reliance on traditional paper-based documentation. This shift not only promises to improve efficiency and transparency within the judiciary but also aims to alleviate logistical challenges faced by many citizens who previously struggled to access court services due to geographical barriers.
Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda emphasized the importance of this program during the launch, stating that it will significantly enhance the accessibility of justice for all Malawians.

“By digitizing court documents and enabling remote participation in hearings, we are taking a crucial step towards an inclusive judicial system that caters to everyone,” he remarked.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving key stakeholders such as the Malawi Judiciary, UNDP, Police, Prisons Services, and Airtel Malawi. With approximately 80-85% of Malawi’s population living in rural areas far from formal court structures, the E-Justice Program is poised to bring justice closer to the people by facilitating remote access through video conferencing and virtual hearings.
As Malawi embarks on this digital journey, it aims not only to modernize its judicial processes but also to foster a more equitable society where access to justice is recognized as a fundamental right for all citizens.
