A woman, identified simply as Olivia, was rescued from a suspected ritualist, otherwise as a “Yahoo Plus boy,” in Top View hotel, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

A viral video circulating on social media captured the intense moment when hotel staff intervened just in time to save her.

Olivia had been stripped naked, with her hands, legs, and neck tied by the suspect, Alex, who allegedly intended to strangle her. It was reported that her screams alerted hotel staff, who rushed to the room and intervened, preventing what appeared to be a ritual killing attempt.

The staff scolded both Olivia for visiting the man in his room and Alex for attempting to harm her. The man was forced to untie the woman, and Olivia used her clothes to cover herself.

Alex has since been arrested by the police, and further investigations are likely ongoing. The operation was conducted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, has said the police are currently awaiting the NSCDC to transfer the suspect for further investigation.

“The FCT police command is aware of the video footage making the rounds about a lady who was criminally confined in Top View Hotel Wuse, Abuja on 17th September, 2024 by an alleged Internet fraudster allegedly for money ritual.

“Findings revealed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has taken the suspect into custody and are yet to hand over to the police for diligent investigation.

“The FCT police command for all intent and purposes awaits the NSCDC to hand over all parties for commencement of diligent and discreet investigation,” she said.

The incident has sparked outrage online, with many expressing concern about the rise in ritual-related crimes linked to “Yahoo Plus” practices in Nigeria.
