The All Progressives Congress, APC, has strongly denied allegations suggesting the party’s involvement in the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as alleged by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka made this statement on Friday in Abuja in response to comments attributed to the governor, emphasising that the PDP’s crisis was self-inflicted and endemic, citing its history of leadership imbroglios that predated the APC’s formation.

He said that the chaotic tenures of national chairmen Barnabas Gemade, Audu Ogbeh, Vincent Ogbulafor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Bamanga Tukur, Ali Modu Sherrif, Ahmed Makarfi, Uche Secondus and Iyorcha Ayu attested to confusion in the PDP.

The APC spokesman attributed the latest crisis to the PDP’s failure to adhere to its constitution on zoning and power sharing between the North and South zones.

“The PDP decided to concentrate both positions in one zone, digging itself into deeper crisis,” Morka said.

He advised Gov. Mohammed and other PDP leaders to introspect and seek solutions within, rather than blame the APC.

Morka further urged the PDP to resolve its issues internally rather than seeking scapegoats. “It is disheartening that the PDP, instead of addressing its own leadership deficiencies, has resorted to making baseless accusations against the APC. We encourage them to focus on fixing their party, rather than dragging us into their drama.

“Our great party is too busy doing the job entrusted to it by the Nigerian electorate and does not have a moment to spare in involvement in PDP’s internal commotion.”

The PDP leadership crisis, which has led to the suspension and expulsion of key members and the emergence of factional leaders, has raised concerns about the party’s ability to present a united front in upcoming elections.

With the 2027 elections in view, the PDP’s ability to resolve its leadership crisis could play a key role in its effectiveness as a political force.
