Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, UNGA.
He will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and participate in high-level meetings addressing global challenges, including climate change, poverty, inequality, and the impact of ongoing conflicts. The event will focus on reaffirming commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals and enhancing global cooperation.
Shettima was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar; Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani; Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa; Nigerian diplomats, UN officials and many others.
Credible News recalls that President Bola Tinubu designated Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
The decision followed President Tinubu’s return from a recent trip to China and the United Kingdom, as he focuses on addressing pressing domestic challenges, including the aftermath of severe flooding in Nigeria.

The high-level General Debate, under the theme “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations,” will take place from September 24 to 28, 2024.
The 79th UNGA will be chaired by Ambassador Philémon Yang of Cameroon, who will lead the Assembly’s work until September 2025. Heads of State or Government are expected to participate, creating a unique opportunity to strengthen relations and dialogue between world leaders.
