The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, dominated the September 28 local government elections in Anambra State, securing all available positions across the 21 local government areas and 326 wards.
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission Chairperson, Genevieve Osakwe, officially announced the results on Sunday, affirming APGA’s total sweep of the chairmanship and councillorship seats. She declared that the commission meticulously verified and confirmed the results, ensuring their accuracy before the final announcement.
Osakwe lauded the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections, attributing the success to a high voter turnout and the dedication of security agencies. She emphasized that the elections were free, fair, and transparent, with all votes properly collated at the polling units.

“This election represents the will of the people,” Osakwe said, describing the process as one of the fairest in the state’s history. While APGA candidates and agents celebrated the win, the absence of opposition party representatives at the declaration of results was notable.
Despite this, the election has been widely accepted as a credible reflection of the people’s choice, marking a significant achievement for APGA in Anambra’s political landscape.
