The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, NNPCL, has conducted 639 eye surgeries and distributed over 10,000 glasses through its ‘Eye Can See’ programme, new hope to thousands of residents in Imo State.

The programme which is part of the state-owned company’s Corporate Social Responsibility was done in partnership with Seplat Energy Joint Venture, JV.

The program, which was recently held in Ohaji/Egbema community offered free eye examinations, treatments, and surgeries, giving many residents the chance to regain their sight and improve their quality of life.

The firm disclosed this in a statement on Friday, issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.

Through its “Eye Can See” programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, initiative, the JV dispensed more than 10,000 reading glasses and successfully performed 639 eye surgeries, including cataract removals, for host community members who otherwise had limited access to such vital medical services.

The firm said that the ‘Eye Can See’ programme commenced in 2017 and has been a beacon of hope in the eastern asset of the NNPC upstream investments.

The company noted that the health campaign has impacted over 20,000 people between 2017 to 2024.

Wunti who was represented by Dr. Obinna Otuu, Manager, JV Asset B disclosed that the broader vision behind the programme is to extend NNPC’s mandate beyond energy security.

Wunti said, “We are a partner in progress, dedicated to making sustainable contributions to the communities that support us.

“Our belief that corporate structures can and should play a vital role in societal development.”

Wunti explained that the programme also covers educating Nigerians on lifestyle choices to prevent conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

Wunti said NNPC’s partnership with Seplat, the National Oil Company is paving the way for a brighter future that would enable access to essential health services.

He said, “This project is not just about restoring vision; it is about giving people hope and the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives. This year’s outreach in Ohaji/Egbema is a testament to the ongoing commitment of NNPC andSeplat to improve the quality of life in their host communities.”

NNPCL added that its Seplat JV remains dedicated to contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s development through initiatives like the “Eye Can See” programme.
