Neos Airline, Italy’s flag carrier, has announced its plan to begin direct flights into Lagos, Nigeria, starting from October 30.

The airline’s operations, managed by aviation service provider Sky Master, will initially run once a week for the first month, increasing to three weekly flights from the second month onward.

During a launch event held in Ikeja, Lagos, stakeholders, industry regulators, and prospective clients gathered to celebrate the airline’s entry into the Nigerian market. Princewill Ogbonna, Managing Director of Sky Master, emphasized that this new route will enhance ties between Nigeria and Italy. He noted that the airline, headquartered in Somma Lombardo, operates in over 50 global destinations and plans to utilize a Boeing 787-8 for its inaugural flights.

Ogbonna expressed appreciation for the Nigerian government, particularly President Bola Tinubu, for fostering an environment conducive to foreign investments. He also mentioned the potential for tailored services to meet specific travel needs, such as non-stop flights for groups like the Christian Association of Nigeria wishing to travel directly to Rome.

The launch was supported by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Consulate, with Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar highlighting the importance of the new air link as a step toward strengthening Nigeria-Italy relations. Italian Consul General Ugo Boni echoed this sentiment, calling the direct flight long overdue and expressing optimism about increased flight frequencies in the future.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing connectivity and cooperation between Nigeria and Italy, aiming to facilitate smoother travel for both nations.
