Newly posted Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of the Agbarho Division in Delta State, CSP Jega, and some of his men have been killed by a suspected kidnap syndicate.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, just two days after CSP Jega assumed his role at the Agbarho Division.
Reports disclosed that CSP Jega, alongside the DPO of Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul, led a joint team on a kidnap rescue operation near the Agbarho rail station. The police team was caught off-guard by heavy gunfire from the kidnappers. In the intense exchange, CSP Jega and several officers were killed, while CSP Paul narrowly escaped and is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital.
Warri-based activist, Israel Joe, expressed his sorrow over the tragic event, recounting a conversation with the late DPO just a day before the ambush. Joe said Jega had swiftly handled a case of misconduct involving his men.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the ambush, stating, “We lost only the DPO in the attack.”
“This is very tearful, I can, to some extent, attest to the characters of these men. I wish to convey my condolence to the Nigeria Police Force, the CP Delta State Command, entire family and friends of the police who lost their lives in a quest to save society in the front line of duty. None of these demons should be spared by the force”.
