Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has launched the construction of the 20KM Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road, linking Lokoja and Adavi local government areas.

The project, part of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project supported by the World Bank, aims to improve access to farms and markets, boosting food security across the state.

At the flag-off ceremony in Apata near Obajana, Governor Ododo highlighted the importance of rural roads in his administration’s development agenda. He noted that the Obajana-Uro-Aku road will connect key areas within Lokoja and Adavi local government regions, facilitating better transportation for farmers and traders. The project is designed to create a network of over 65 kilometers of rural roads across Kogi State, aimed at ensuring food security and enhancing market access for agricultural producers.

Ododo urged communities to take ownership of the project and warned contractors to maintain integrity in delivering the work. The State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed, emphasized that the road network will reduce transportation costs and improve accessibility for farmers and traders.

Governor Ododo emphasized that this road construction is not merely about building infrastructure; it represents a commitment to uplifting the lives of rural residents. He stated, “The roads will serve as a catalyst for rural economic growth and food security in the state.” This sentiment underscores the administration’s recognition of the vital role that rural roads play in connecting farming communities to markets and essential services.

Traditional leaders also expressed their support for the project. The Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Baiyerohi, highlighted how the road would not only enhance agricultural development but also alleviate traffic congestion along existing routes. Other local rulers echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of such infrastructure in supporting the livelihoods of farmers and traders.

The flagging off of the Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road marks a significant step forward in Kogi State’s commitment to rural development. By improving infrastructure, Governor Ododo aims to foster economic growth, enhance food security, and improve the quality of life for residents in rural areas. This initiative reflects a broader vision for sustainable development that prioritizes accessibility and economic opportunity for all citizens.
