Recall that in 2020, Dare Melody, shared in an interview with Blue Print newspapers, the harrowing experience of a near-fatal accident that left him and his band members shaken.
Recalling the incident that took place on November 21, 2020, Dare Melody shared how they left Ibadan in the early hours after performing at two events and headed towards Lagos. Around 4:15 a.m., the journey took a terrifying turn near Mowe when his convoy encountered heavy traffic. Suddenly, a 40-foot truck with faulty brakes crashed into Dare’s vehicle from behind, leaving him unconscious and his car heavily damaged.
“I heard a loud, nasty noise, and then everything went dark. The car tumbled, and I later woke up to the voices of my band members shouting ‘He’s our chairman!’” Dare recalled. Trapped and uncertain of his fate, he was ultimately pulled from the wreckage by passersby and his band members. Thankfully, he and his team escaped with only minor injuries, while one of the truck attendants suffered serious injuries after being thrown from the truck.
Witnesses at the scene blamed the truck driver, expressing frustration at the frequent accidents involving large vehicles on that route. Dare Melody, reflecting on his survival, expressed gratitude to God and appealed to the government to improve road conditions and enforce stricter checks on vehicle safety. “We’ve had enough of these avoidable accidents. Our lives matter,” he urged, hoping his story serves as a wake-up call for road safety reforms.
