Anti-Graft Agency ICPC Keeps Mum Over Corruption Case Involving Tinubu’s Appointee In Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko

During his time at NFF, Shehu Dikko was accused of embezzling public funds and perpetrating a lot of corruption via its office. He was charged together with other former executives of the NFF by the ICPC in 2019.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences commission, ICPC, has kept mum over the status of a corruption case involving Mallam Shehu Dikko, the newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Commission, NSC.

The appointment of Dikko, who was previously the Vice President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and Chairman of League Management Company, was announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Presidency.

His appointment came shortly after the President scrapped the Ministry of Sports and announced that the National Sports Commission should take over.

During his time at NFF, Shehu Dikko was accused of embezzling public funds and perpetrating a lot of corruption via its office. He was charged together with other former executives of the NFF by the ICPC in 2019.

It was based on this that the anti-corruption agency announced the seizure of his mansion at No. 1 River Benue in Maitama. This was in accordance with an order of forfeiture of the property by the Federal High Court in Abuja, according to ICPC former spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa.

“Yes. It’s a fresh investigation involving him (Dikko) and some others,” Rasheedat had told newsmen in September 2019.

Five years later, the same man was announced to head the sports sector in the country without any explanation or official reports from the ICPC indicating how his corruption case ended.

When SaharaReporters contacted the current spokesperson of the agency, Demola Bakare on Wednesday to enquire about the status of Dikko’s trial, he said he would find out and get back.

However, during a subsequent telephone conversation with SaharaReporters on Friday morning — two days after his promise, Demola said he is yet to know anything about the current status of the case.

“I don’t have an answer yet,” he told SaharaReporters when asked about the outcome of his finding as promised.

He also stated that he did not know if Dikko was later arraigned after his property was confiscated, or if the massion is still in the agency’s custody.
