The Nigeria Association of Law Teachers, NALT, is calling for an increase in the number of slots for the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
This request came during the association’s 2024 Annual Conference held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara, themed: “Law, Democratic Consolidation and National Development.”
NALT’s National President, Prof. Nimah Abdulraheem, expressed concern over the underrepresentation of law educators among the ranks of SAN. She highlighted the importance of their inclusion in the Council of Legal Education to enhance recognition within the legal profession.
“Our commitment to improving legal education and the rule of law has been the cornerstone of NALT’s development for over fifty years,” Abdulraheem stated. She assured members that the association would take necessary actions to ensure their contributions are acknowledged.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, delivered a goodwill message advocating for electoral reforms. Represented by Prof. Oluocha Anyaoku, he emphasized the importance of digital platforms in promoting transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process, while also addressing the need to align global economic partnerships with national interests.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN, expressed pride in hosting the conference, commending participants for their dedication to advancing legal research and education.
NALT is a professional body which represents the interests of law teachers in Nigeria. It was established in 1961 to promote excellence in research and legal academic teaching in Nigeria. It aids in promoting government policies and practices related to legal education and research. The association also helps in Legal research, Law reform, curriculum advancement of pedagogical improvements in view of national and international developments. The incumbent president of the association is professor Smaranda Olarinde, the Provost of the College of Law, Afe Babalola University.
