The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, announced last night that it has successfully reinstated bulk power supply to seven northern states via the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1, following crucial repairs.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs disclosed that the repairs were completed at 4:56 PM on Wednesday.
Mbah highlighted that with the restoration of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now fully operational, bringing bulk power back to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States.
Efforts to restore the second 330kV transmission line are set to commence shortly. TCN has ensured that all necessary materials for the repairs are readily available, and work will begin once safety measures are established for personnel working in the areas affected by vandalism.
Additionally, teams of linesmen will patrol the 330kV line 2 to monitor for any further issues as repair efforts continue.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as our engineers diligently work to restore the second 330kV transmission line. TCN is committed to the timely repair of this line to enhance electricity supply to the regions impacted by recent incidents,” she stated.
The restoration follows a significant disruption in power supply to fifteen northern states due to bandit attacks on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines and vandalism on the Ugwuaji-Apir lines.
On October 22, TCN reported a significant outage affecting the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central regions following the tripping of its 330kV Ugwaji-Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2. Nafisatu Ali, Executive Director of the Independent System Operator, disclosed that the outage was exacerbated by insurgents vandalizing the Shiroro-Kaduna line, a critical power source for the North.
In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered the military to secure these power lines as TCN teams work on urgent repairs. This directive underscores the administration’s commitment to restoring and safeguarding electricity supply in the affected regions.
