Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has assured residents affected by the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N5, from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, that they will receive fair compensation.

During a recent inspection of key projects across Life Camp, Katampe, and the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Wike highlighted the government’s commitment to easing the impact on locals, promising compensation within the next two days to those losing homes or farmland to the development.

The project, a six-lane dual carriageway, will link several districts, including Kado, Gwarimpa I, and Dei Dei, offering improved connectivity in the area. Known as Obafemi Awolowo Way, this road construction, once completed, will alleviate congestion and provide new transportation options across these communities.

Inspecting additional projects, Wike noted an extended contract scope for the Katampe District’s road from Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, which will now connect with a road named after Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, making it more functional by linking to Judges Quarters.

At the International Conference Centre, which is also undergoing renovations, Wike expressed satisfaction with the work done by Julius Berger and confirmed that it would be ready for use by April 2025. The newly modernized center aims to meet global standards, enhancing Abuja’s appeal as a conference destination.

Looking ahead, Wike highlighted that most of these projects are expected to reach completion by May 2025, commemorating the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He reiterated the administration’s goal of making Abuja a world-class capital, with improvements not only in the city center but also in surrounding satellite towns. Additionally, over 32 schools are under renovation as part of a broader effort to upgrade educational infrastructure and boost residents’ quality of life.
