The Enugu State Government has expressed strong condemnation of a recent incident of bullying and physical assault involving a student at Federal Government College, Enugu.

Labeling the incident as “deeply troubling and emotionally distressing,” the government has called for a swift and thorough investigation, with instructions for the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, the government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, abuse, and other dehumanizing acts within learning environments across Enugu State. Prof. Mbah emphasized that such behavior contradicts the values of respect and safety that the state’s educational policies uphold, warning that anyone participating in or enabling such acts would face strict penalties.

Although the assault took place in a federal institution, the Enugu State Government has already engaged with the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that the necessary disciplinary measures are enforced against the students and any school staff found negligent in their duties.

The government reassured parents and the public of its commitment to maintaining a safe educational environment, citing the significant investments made by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in the education sector to enhance safety and learning conditions.

Earlier, a video clip that surfaced on social media showed several students physically assaulting another student within the school hostel. The clip sparked widespread outrage and swift condemnation from the state government and the public alike.

Emphasizing that bullying and intimidation have no place in the state’s schools, the Enugu State Government warned all educational institutions that failure to protect students would be met with decisive consequences.
