Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has refuted claims of an explosion near the old Jos University Teaching Hospital site, located close to the Terminus Market in Jos North.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Gyang Bere, the governor clarified that recent reports of an Improvised Explosive Device blast at the site were entirely baseless. He explained that the alarm was triggered when a group of individuals misinterpreted a pile of discarded polythene bags as a possible security threat, causing unnecessary panic among residents.

Governor Mutfwang stated that the security forces, including the Plateau Police Command’s bomb disposal unit, acted promptly to investigate the situation. They carried out a thorough search of the area and established that no explosive device was present.

The governor urged citizens of Plateau to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing that their collective efforts were crucial for maintaining peace and safety across the state. He assured the public of his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling security challenges and fostering stability.

Encouraging residents, especially those around the Terminus Market area, to go about their normal activities without fear, Mutfwang reminded everyone to promptly report any suspicious activity to the authorities to ensure swift responses.

In closing, he called for solidarity in supporting the state’s quest for enduring peace and prosperity.

Credible News recalls that a powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday morning in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, near the densely populated Terminus market area.

Security agencies, including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams, responded quickly to the scene to provide rescue operations.

The incident took place around 10 a.m., and while the exact number of casualties and the extent of the damage remain unclear, several individuals are reported to have been injured, with some sources suggesting possible fatalities. Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor in the area, described the scene, saying, “I was nearby when I heard a loud bang. I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying.”
