Half of the directors vying for positions as  permanent secretaries in Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service have failed the initial qualifying exam, according to a memo from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.

Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, representing the examination committee, confirmed that out of 38 shortlisted candidates, only 19 directors passed the first round, held on November 11, 2024.

In an effort to fill vacant permanent secretary roles in eight states, the OHCSF initiated the selection process in October. Eno Olotu, Director of Press at the OHCSF, provided an update on Tuesday, stating that the 19 successful candidates will advance to the second stage, where their ICT skills in government operations will be tested on November 13, 2024.

Olotu highlighted the rigorous nature of the selection process, emphasizing its three stages to ensure that only the best-qualified candidates are chosen. After the ICT assessment, those who pass will proceed to the final stage on November 15, 2024, where they will be evaluated by a panel comprising senior civil servants and private sector representatives.

The government’s commitment to thorough selection underscores its aim to appoint capable leaders to drive efficiency and innovation within the civil service.
