A gas cylinder explosion occurred at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area, LGA, of Katsina State on November 15, damaging six vehicles but miraculously resulting in no casualties.
State’s police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said the explosion was heard by police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. In response, the DPO quickly led a team, including military personnel, to the scene.
The explosion took place at Tamal Filling Station along the Kagadama-Magamar Jibia road, where a truck loaded with gas cylinders was engulfed in flames. The joint team immediately took action to control the fire, preventing further loss of life and limiting property damage. Six vehicles were reportedly damaged in the fire.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the investigation are expected to be shared as the inquiry progresses.

Eyewitnesses reported extensive damage, with the blast destroying two houses and damaging seven vehicles in the vicinity. Although no fatalities have been recorded, many individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
Witnesses suggested that the explosion might have been triggered by a spark from a wire on the truck, which had been parked at the filling station for several days. Concerns were raised regarding illegal gas smuggling activities in the area, as residents noted that gas cylinders were often transported from neighboring Niger Republic without proper oversight.
