The Federal Government has officially inaugurated the Coordinating Council for Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection, FCCCNAIP, aimed at securing vital infrastructure across Nigeria.
The inauguration took place in Abuja on Monday, led by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, who serves as the council’s Chairman.
The newly formed council includes heads of key security agencies and other relevant stakeholders. Ribadu emphasized that the council’s formation is a significant step in ensuring the resilience and sustainability of Nigeria’s essential infrastructure, which includes transportation systems, energy grids, communication networks, and other public services that are critical to national prosperity.

“In an ever-evolving landscape fraught with challenges, these assets face growing threats from criminals, terrorists, saboteurs, bandits, and even cyber-attacks,” Ribadu said. He highlighted that the council’s mission is not merely reactive but also proactive, focused on fostering collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning to safeguard the nation’s infrastructure.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who co-chairs the council, echoed these sentiments, stating that the era of vandalism and threats to critical infrastructure is over. Tunji-Ojo expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving the council’s establishment and assured full support from his ministry, alongside the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, which is tasked with protecting critical assets.
The council’s formation signals a unified effort to bolster national security, economic stability, and public confidence by safeguarding the foundational infrastructure of Nigeria.
