The serene premises of Chevron Nigeria Limited in Lekki, Lagos, was disturbed on Tuesday as retired employees staged a protest to express their dissatisfaction over unresolved pension issues and company policies.
The retirees, carrying placards with messages like: “We say no to dissolution of CNCPFA,” “Chevron stop discrimination against retirees”, “Nigeria is a sovereign nation: respect our laws above your policies”, and “Chevron, treat us like other IOCs,” demanded answers regarding the outsourcing of their pension fund and the company’s compliance with Nigerian laws.
Their grievances included delayed pension payments, alleged breaches of Nigerian regulations, lack of engagement with the National Pension Commission, PenCom, and stagnant pensions for decades.

One protester lamented, “Chevron must clarify whether it has divested from Nigeria or plans to abandon its obligations to retirees.”
The demonstrators urged Chevron to address their concerns and ensure fair treatment, echoing calls for respect for Nigerian sovereignty and laws above corporate policies.
The protesters are calling for immediate engagement with PenCom and adherence to Nigerian laws regarding pension management.
The protest reflects broader concerns among retirees about corporate governance and compliance with local laws, highlighting ongoing tensions between multinational corporations and their former employees in Nigeria.
