The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has confirmed a surprise attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province terrorists on troops stationed at a stabilization operations site in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred over the weekend, led to the deaths of five soldiers, with 10 others injured and four missing in action. However, the troops successfully neutralized several terrorists and recovered weapons, according to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba.
“The coordinated attack saw five soldiers killed in action, ten wounded, and four missing. Troops eliminated several terrorists and recovered weapons,” Major General Buba stated on Tuesday. He also noted that the enemy forces burnt equipment, including one gun truck, three tactical combat vehicles, and an excavator.
A reinforcement team, accompanied by air support, was deployed to pursue the fleeing terrorists and secure the area. The military expressed determination to sustain its efforts against terrorism and other security threats despite the loss.
