The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has uncovered a major counterfeit alcohol packaging operation at Article Market, Abule-Osun, Lagos State, seizing materials and items worth an estimated ₦2 billion.
In a statement released on Thursday via X, NAFDAC disclosed that over 50,000 fake branded labels and packaging materials used in producing unauthorised and hazardous alcoholic beverages were confiscated during the raid.
“These items were being used to produce unapproved and hazardous alcoholic products, posing severe health risks, including poisoning and organ damage,” the agency stated.
The agency described this operation as crucial for public health and safety, emphasizing the dangers posed by counterfeit alcohol, which can lead to severe health risks including poisoning and organ damage.

NAFDAC has urged consumers to remain vigilant, recommending that they purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
