The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has pledged full cooperation with the legislative arm on the ongoing constitutional amendment process and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling key national challenges.

During a Wednesday night meeting in Abuja, the governors hosted Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who also chairs the Committee on the Review of the Constitution.

Kalu presented updates on the amendment process and proposed a “one-stop shop” framework to harmonize state-level priorities with the national constitutional review agenda.

“The Deputy Speaker emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Forum and the Committee,” the NGF noted in a communique.

The governors expressed support for the initiative and promised active participation in shaping amendments to strengthen the Nigerian Constitution.

The meeting also addressed educational reforms, with the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, providing an overview of pressing challenges. These include: Out-of-school children, high levels of learning poverty particularly in the North-East and North-West and gender gaps in education access.

Key proposals discussed included: Boosting girl-child education, strengthening vocational training, leveraging technology and data for better educational outcomes.

The NGF pledged to collaborate with the Federal Government and development partners to achieve SDG4 and reduce educational disparities.

The Forum also condemned rising insecurity in the North-West, reiterating its commitment to working with the Federal Government to restore peace nationwide.

Additionally, the governors promised to present a united stance on the Federal Government’s ongoing tax reforms, aimed at enhancing revenue generation and economic stability.

The NGF’s actions reflect a concerted effort to address constitutional, educational, and security challenges in Nigeria, reinforcing the importance of state and federal collaboration for national progress.
