NATO chief Mark Rutte has met with US President-elect Donald Trump in Florida to discuss “global security issues facing the alliance,” as stated by spokeswoman on Saturday.

The meeting occurred on Friday in Palm Beach, as stated by Farah Dakhlallah from NATO. During his first term, Trump urged Europe to increase defense spending and raised concerns about the fairness of the NATO transatlantic alliance.

Rutte expressed his desire to meet Trump two days after the election on November 5 to address the growing threat posed by the warming relations between North Korea and Russia.

Trump’s significant victory in the presidential race has caused unease in Europe regarding the potential withdrawal of crucial US military support for Ukraine. NATO allies emphasize that maintaining Kyiv’s resistance against Moscow is vital for both European and American security.

Recently, Rutte noted at a European leaders’ gathering in Budapest that “North Korea, Iran, China, and of course Russia are increasingly collaborating against Ukraine.” He added that “Russia has to pay for this, and one of the things they are doing is delivering technology to North Korea,” which he warned poses a threat to “the mainland of the US and continental Europe.”

Rutte stated, “I look forward to sitting down with Donald Trump to discuss how we can collectively confront these threats.”
