A fire broke out early Thursday morning in Queen Elizabeth Hall, a female undergraduate hostel at the University of Ibadan, causing significant damage to the offices of the Hall Warden and the Secretary.

While the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, university authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source of the fire.

The Director of Public Relations at the university, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, confirmed the incident, stating: “Yes, it is true. The offices of both the Hall Warden and the Secretary were affected.” She assured the university community that steps are being taken to safeguard students and prevent further incidents.

The fire, which raised concerns about the security of students residing in the hostel, did not result in reported injuries or fatalities. However, the affected offices were integral to the administration of the hall, heightening worries about the disruption of services.

“University officials are committed to addressing the situation promptly and will provide updates as investigations progress,” Mrs. Akinpelu added.

The university community has been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity as officials work to restore normalcy and provide support to those impacted. Students and parents alike are calling for enhanced safety measures to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.

This incident underscores the importance of fire safety protocols within educational institutions, sparking conversations about preventive measures and emergency preparedness across campus.
