The Federal Government has commenced the payment of increased salaries for military personnel, including three months of arrears.

This was confirmed by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in a statement issued by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence.

Dr. Matawalle disclosed that military personnel had already begun receiving payment alerts, marking a significant step in addressing long-standing financial obligations to both serving and retired members of the armed forces.

He further disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently approved the release of funds for military pensions and entitlements owed to retirees, highlighting the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigeria’s military community.

“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the living standards of those who have served and continue to serve the nation,” Matawalle stated.

The minister praised the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, for his support in ensuring the payments were realized and urged military personnel to remain steadfast in their service. He reassured them that the government is committed to boosting their morale and providing essential support to confront Nigeria’s security challenges.

“In spite of initial setbacks, Mr. President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they combat insecurity,” Matawalle added.

The minister also expressed gratitude to the President for his decisive action and emphasized the critical role played by both serving and retired military personnel in safeguarding the nation. He reiterated President Tinubu’s resolve to eradicate insecurity, reinforced by the resilience and readiness of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

This development is expected to bolster the morale of military personnel and demonstrate the administration’s prioritization of security and welfare in Nigeria.
