Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, has declared his intention to contest the gubernatorial seat again in 2027.
This announcement underscores his resolve to remain an active and impactful voice in Lagos politics.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Gold Room’, hosted by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, Rhodes-Vivour articulated his vision for Lagos and his determination to challenge the status quo.
“By God’s grace, I will run for governorship again in 2027. We are working hard, gained significant traction, learned from our mistakes, and identified the loopholes we made,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour criticized the recurring trend of opposition parties fading into irrelevance after elections, vowing to change the narrative. “The biggest mistake in Lagos politics is that after elections, the opposition disappears. That’s not happening this time,” he affirmed.
As part of his strategy to remain relevant, the former governorship candidate disclosed several ongoing grassroots initiatives, including health outreaches and a micro health insurance program. The insurance plan offers free medical treatment worth up to ₦6,000 for Lagos residents, aiming to ease the burden of healthcare costs on vulnerable communities.

Rhodes-Vivour emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure judicious use of public funds.
“With the level of suffering Nigerians and Lagosians are enduring, there’s an urgent need for accountability and transparency. The government must use public funds in the most efficient way possible,” he stated.
Highlighting his role as an opposition leader, Rhodes-Vivour stressed that holding the government accountable is a critical duty that ultimately benefits the public. “When the opposition holds the government accountable, the people ultimately benefit,” he remarked.
The Labour Party stalwart also spoke about his broader vision for Lagos, addressing issues such as healthcare, urban development, and equitable resource allocation. His focus on grassroots advocacy reflects his belief in staying connected with the challenges faced by everyday Lagosians.
As he sets his sights on 2027, Rhodes-Vivour aims to redefine the role of opposition in Lagos politics, providing a consistent counterbalance to the ruling administration. His commitment to sustained advocacy positions him as a formidable contender in the upcoming election cycle.
