The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin has expressed regret on the tragic deaths and injuries sustained by minors in a stampede at the children’s carnival in Ibadan.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, the Olubadan extended his condolences to the families of the victims, describing the event as both tragic and untimely.
Reports indicate that more than 30 children died in the incident, with many others sustaining various degrees of injury.
The monarch and the Olubadan-In-Council have wished the injured a swift recovery and urged the Oyo State Government to thoroughly investigate the cause of the stampede, ensure accountability, and take preventive measures for future events. They called for the development of clear guidelines to ensure the safety of children and other attendees at such gatherings.

In the statement, Oba Olakulehin and the Council expressed their grief “Kabiyesi and the Olubadan-In-Council are deeply saddened by the loss of innocent children during the tragic stampede at the funfair held on Wednesday at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan. We sympathize with the parents and families of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.”
The statement further implored the state government to take immediate action, saying, “We urge the government to conduct a full investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and establish protocols to ensure the safety of children at such events.”
Additionally, the Olubadan called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant and prioritize the safety of their children and wards at all times.
