President Bola Tinubu has approved the proposal to establish a federal university in Southern Kaduna.
Vice President Kashim Shettima shared this development during a condolence visit to the Kukah family, following the death of Yohanna Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom.
The Vice President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed the news in a statement on Monday, titled ‘President Tinubu Okays Establishment of Federal Varsity in Southern Kaduna.’
The late traditional ruler, Yohanna Kukah, was a relative of Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese.
In addition to the university, Shettima disclosed ongoing discussions aimed at establishing a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. He also noted that the federal government, in collaboration with the state government, is working to improve infrastructure in Southern Kaduna, particularly road development.

During the visit, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to the Vice President on behalf of the family, acknowledging Shettima’s support. “Thank you for being with us,” Bishop Kukah said. He also highlighted the challenging state of local infrastructure, noting that the long journey to their community, which took about three and a half hours, was made difficult by poor roads. “We are honored to have you,” he added.
Shettima, who visited the Ikulu Kingdom in Kamuru, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna.
He pointed to the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of President Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the region’s security concerns.
