A French passenger who recently caused major disruptions at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been sedated and returned to France after a series of confrontations with airport officials.
The individual, who had arrived in Nigeria without a valid visa, flew in on an Air France flight two days ago but was promptly denied entry upon the discovery that he had not obtained the necessary visa for entry.
The unnamed French national’s behavior quickly escalated into a combative confrontation with airport authorities, causing significant security and diplomatic concerns.
As a result of his unruly conduct, the airport’s immigration officers were forced to deboard him from the Air France flight he arrived on.
He was then restricted from accessing the boarding area as the situation grew more tense. His disruptive actions drew the attention of airport security and led to heightened scrutiny from both local authorities and diplomatic circles.
The incident continued to evolve, with authorities taking swift action to manage the situation.

Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority , NCAA, provided an update on the unfolding events via his X handle on Friday.
Achimugu confirmed that the passenger had been sedated by medical professionals at the airport after his behavior became increasingly erratic and unmanageable.
He was subsequently airlifted back to France, specifically to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, later that evening.
Achimugu, who had personally overseen the passenger’s reboarding process, praised the efforts of the Nigerian airport authorities, especially the Immigration Commandant at the Abuja airport, Mr. Agada.
He expressed his gratitude for the swift response of the airport officials who helped resolve the situation.
The incident, which raised concerns about both airport security protocols and diplomatic relations, was handled efficiently, and the passenger was successfully returned to his home country by around 10 pm on Thursday.
This unusual incident highlights ongoing concerns about airport security, visa enforcement, and the coordination between local and international authorities to manage such situations.
