Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has given approval for the development of a significant water supply project in Bama Local Government Area to tackle water-related challenges in the region.
Bama, one of the council areas overtaken by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014, was liberated by the military in March 2015.
Zulum made the announcement on Thursday during his visit to the Shehu of Bama, Dr. Umar El-kanemi, at his palace in Bama town. Under Zulum’s administration, nine large-scale water projects have been completed across the state.
The locations of the projects include Ngarannam, Moramti, Pulka, Chibok, Azare, Madinatu, Shokwari in Jere, Gwoza, Hawul, Chibok, Konduga, and Maiduguri metropolis.

The governor also revealed plans to renovate the road networks in Bama township to improve transportation and facilitate ease of movement.
“Bama is one of the communities worst-hit by Boko Haram insurgency; the destructions were unimaginable.
“We have made significant progress in our rebuilding efforts in Banki, Darajamal, Mayenti, and several other settlements,” he remarked.
Zulum further directed that an Islamic High School be established in Bama, aiming to integrate formal and non-formal education while offering certification for Almajiri education.
In his earlier remarks, the Shehu of Bama praised the governor for his dedicated service to the people of Borno, highlighting his administration’s initiatives in infrastructure and agriculture.
The governor also visited Abbaram town, a village situated in the eastern part of the Kur Mohammed military barracks, to assess the damage caused by Boko Haram insurgents.
The purpose of the visit was to support the resettlement of people displaced from Bama and surrounding areas for over ten years due to the insurgency.
Zulum was joined by the Senator representing Borno Central, Sen. Kaka Shehu Lawan, as well as members of the House of Representatives, including Rep. Bukar Talba and Rep. Abdulkadir Rahis.
