President Bola Tinubu has called on the military to intensify efforts by taking the fight against insurgency directly to the hideouts of bandits and terrorists.
This directive follows recent attacks on a military base in Damboa, Borno State, where several soldiers lost their lives.
The President underscored the need to focus military operations in the Northwest, a region where these criminals persist in endangering the lives and homes of innocent villagers.

Tinubu conveyed his deep sympathy to the military leadership over the tragic loss of six courageous soldiers during a dawn terrorist attack on January 4, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the President extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice for the nation as one that will always be respected and remembered.
In response to the incident, he called for a detailed investigation to uncover the factors behind the attack, with the aim of drawing lessons to prevent future occurrences.
His words: “I must commend the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes.
“The targeted air raids resulted in the significant neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.
“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security. Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces on behalf of a grateful nation.
“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats.
“I urge the military to proactively take the war to the camps of bandits and terrorists.” He specifically highlighted the Northwest as a critical area of focus, where these criminals continue to endanger the lives and properties of innocent citizens.
