“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi after thorough consultations and divinations, and his appointment has been approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” the statement read.
Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said this appointment settles the disputes that emerged after the death of the previous Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away on April 22, 2022.
“This decision brings an end to the socio-legal controversies surrounding the succession process since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi. We urge all residents of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and celebrate this significant moment,” Ojo said.
Oyelade expressed hope that the new monarch’s reign would usher in peace, unity, and development for the Oyo Kingdom while safeguarding its rich heritage.
“We are optimistic that his reign will foster harmony, prosperity, and development for the people of Oyo,” he added.
Oyo residents have been urged to support the new Alaafin as he ascends the throne to guide the historic kingdom into a new era.
