Vice-President Kashim Shettima has described soldiers who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Damboa, Borno, as timeless heroes, emphasizing that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, on Friday in Abuja, Shettima expressed his profound sorrow and unwavering support for the families of the brave soldiers.
He acknowledged the military’s significant success in Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts but lamented that the price of freedom is eternally high.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I received news of our brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation in Damboa,” he said.
“These six valiant soldiers demonstrated exceptional courage in the face of danger by protecting their fellow citizens,” Shettima added.
The Vice-President praised the soldiers’ bravery, stating that “their sacrifices reminded us of the extraordinary price of peace and security.”
“These heroes died ensuring that their fellow Nigerians can live in safety, free from the scourge of insecurity that has impacted our country,” he noted.
Shettima reassured the grieving families, saying their loved ones did not die in vain.
He emphasized that their sacrifices would be eternally honored in the nation’s history and would continue to motivate future generations of Nigerians.
“To our armed forces, your unwavering commitment to protecting our citizens, even at the cost of your own lives, fills us with profound gratitude and respect,” Shettima said.
“We will continue to support you and provide all necessary resources to ensure you can carry out your duties effectively,” he affirmed.
In closing, Shettima urged Nigerians to pay tribute to the fallen heroes by remaining steadfast in the collective pursuit of peace and security.
“May Allah grant our fallen heroes Aljannah Firdaus, comfort their families, and give us all the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the Vice-President prayed.
