The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance on Monday considered zero allocation to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in the 2025 budget proposal.
The committee’s stance followed the presentation by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who appeared before the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives to defend the agency’s proposed budget for 2025.

While presenting the breakdown of JAMB’s 2024 budget performance, Oloyede disclosed that the agency remitted N4bn to the Consolidated Revenue Fund and received a grant of N6bn from the Federal Government.
This did not sit well with the committee members, with Abiodun Faleke and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, APC, Edo, questioning the rationale behind a self-funding agency receiving federal allocations.
“You remitted N4bn and got N6bn from the Federal Government. Why not keep the N4bn and we stop the government from funding JAMB,” asked Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance.
“You spent N1.1bn on meals and refreshments. Are you being freely fed by the government? What this means is that you are spending the money you generate from poor students, many of whom are orphans,” Oshiomhole remarked.
The former governor of Edo State also criticized JAMB for spending N600m on local travels and called on Oloyede to provide justification for the N6.5bn allocated for local training.
