U.S. President-elect Donald Trump stated that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin are interested in meeting immediately he assumes office on January 20.
“And I know he ,Putin, wants to meet, and I’m going to meet him very quickly.
“I would have done it sooner, but you have to get into the office. For some of the things, you do have to be there,’’ Trump said during an interview with Newsmax broadcaster.

At the beginning of January, Trump refrained from providing a specific date for his meeting with Putin, emphasizing that it would not be appropriate before his inauguration on Jan. 20.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that no significant preparations had been made for a meeting with Trump. However, he acknowledged the political will for such talks, describing them as “very, very necessary and advisable.’’
Mike Waltz, Trump’s National Security Advisor Designate, mentioned on Sunday that the two leaders might have a phone conversation in the coming days or weeks.
The U.S. presidential election was held on Nov. 5, 2024.
Republican candidate Donald Trump, who served as president from 2017 to 2021, was declared the winner by major networks and race callers.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris accepted the outcome and conceded.
The Electoral College confirmed the voters’ decision on Dec. 17, 2024, with the new Congress certifying the results on Jan. 6.
The presidential inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025.
