A distressing incident occurred on Sunday when gunmen attacked a Celestial Church of Christ ,CCC, in Idiroko, located in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The attack resulted in the death of 54-year-old prophet Yomi Adetula during a church service.

Reports indicate that three assailants stormed the CCC Eagle Parish on Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, around 10:30 AM.

Their brutal assault targeted the prophet, leaving congregants in shock and fear.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the gunmen shot Adetula before gruesomely mutilating his head with an axe to ensure he was dead.

Ogun State Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, providing harrowing details in a statement released on Sunday afternoon.

“Police officers arrived at the scene to find Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old male, lifeless in a pool of blood, his white celestial garment stained,” Odutola stated. “Upon closer examination, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head had been mangled with an axe to confirm his death.”

The prophet’s remains have been taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro, while the police have initiated an investigation into the murder.

Odutola noted that the suspects escaped towards the border area following the attack.

“Normalcy has returned, and we will uncover possible clues in the coming days as the investigation into this tragic event continues,” she assured.
