The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has described digital literacy as a veritable tool for national development.

While commissioning a cutting-edge ICT center at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Tuesday, she urged policy makers to give priority to the development of digital skills among young people.

The ICT center, named after the late former Minister, Hajia Amina Ndalolo, is equipped with modern digital tools, virtual labs, and online learning platforms designed to revolutionize teaching and learning.

Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of the new facility in fostering technological innovation and empowering Nigerian youths.

“This milestone will continue to elevate the status of women, youths, and other users of the facility,” she said. “It is also paving the way toward making Nigeria a digitally empowered nation, fostering a technology-enabled and equitable future for all Nigerians.”

Kwara State Governor,  AbdulRahman Abdulrasaq described the initiative as a transformative project, emphasizing the critical role technology plays in development.

“Technology is here to stay and the only path forward is to aggressively invest in skills and infrastructure that will secure a prosperous future for our people”, said the governor.

The Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, lauded the project as a proof of the Federation Government’s vision of leveraging digital innovation to drive national prosperity and bridge societal divide.

The project was developed under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady aimed at promoting digital literacy and bridging the technology gap in Nigeria.

The Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, has a rich history of producing highly motivated and efficient classroom teachers. The new ICT center is expected to further enhance the college’s reputation for excellence in education.

With this commissioning, the college is poised to take a giant leap into the digital age, providing students and educators with the skills and tools necessary to thrive in a technology-driven world.
