Max Air management has officially confirmed a serious incident involving one of its aircraft at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport late Tuesday night.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred when a Max Air plane, registered as 5N-MBD and carrying 53 passengers, suffered a tyre burst during its landing attempt at the Kano airport.
Fortunately, all 53 passengers and crew members were safely disembarked without any injuries.
The incident took place around 10:57 p.m., when the aircraft, which had arrived from Lagos, lost its nose landing gear tyre during the landing process.
In a statement posted on the airline’s X handle, Max Air expressed its gratitude for the professionalism of its crew in handling the situation, ensuring the safe evacuation of everyone on board.
“We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday,” the airline stated.
It added that the Kano runway was temporarily closed for inspection and clearance. As a result, some flight delays were expected on Wednesday.
The airline confirmed there were no injuries and that the aircraft was cleared from the runway by 04:28 a.m.
The statement further praised the airline’s engineering team for their excellent handling of the situation, and assured passengers that they would be updated on the status of flight operations.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority ,NCAA, has ordered a thorough inspection of the Kano airport runway.
Credible news recall that a Max Air aircraft caught fire shortly after taking off from Maiduguri Airport in Borno State in December 2024.
Nearly 100 people, including Borno’s Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, narrowly escaped injury during that emergency landing.
