The Federal High Court of the FCT Monday adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu indefinitely.
Justice Binta Nyako gave the order after Kanu and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor insisted that the trial judge no longer had jurisdiction to preside over the case after her earlier recusal.
The case had been stalled since September 2024 after Kanu openly declared his lack of confidence in the judge’s handling of the proceedings.
Justice Nyako had initially recused herself following Kanu’s oral application, but the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, later returned the case to her. Tsoho insisted that any request for recusal must be made formally through a motion on notice.
At Monday’s hearing, Nyako reaffirmed that the Chief Judge had not accepted her withdrawal and directed Kanu’s legal team to submit a written application if they still sought her recusal.
Ejimakor, had earlier opposed the scheduling of a trial date, arguing that Nyako’s initial recusal remained valid.
He also proposed transferring the case to a Federal High Court in the South-East if no judge in Abuja was willing to preside over it. However, that request was not granted.
