Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has denied any intimate relationship with former Big Brother Naija star Nengi Hampson. Rumors circulating online claimed that the 27-year-old reality star had recently welcomed a child as Diri’s fifth wife.
The allegations were fuelled by a post from controversial blogger Gistlover, which suggested that Nengi had given birth to the governor’s child. However, Governor Diri’s spokesperson, Dr. Kola Oredipe, dismissed the claims as baseless fabrications, stating that Nengi had no personal relationship with the governor.
“Regrettably, purveyors of fake news are not happy with the governor’s rising political profile. While we were inaugurating a brand-new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were busy spreading falsehoods,” Oredipe said.
Nengi, who hails from Bayelsa State, also denied the rumors in a statement on her X account. While confirming her pregnancy, she made it clear that no governor was involved.
“As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that people are quick to spread falsehoods without limits. Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor,” she wrote.
She further expressed her disappointment, stating that the rumors not only attacked her but also involved people she deeply respects.
“I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly. While I continue to mind my own business and enjoy my pregnancy in peace, I wish y’all love and a happy Valentine’s weekend,” she added.
Nengi gained fame after participating in Big Brother Naija season five, which Laycon won. In 2020, she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development by Governor Diri.
Despite the controversy, both Nengi and the governor’s office have dismissed the claims, urging the public to ignore false reports.
