Authorities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, are investigating an altercation between a lecturer and a student that escalated into a physical brawl over TikTok recording.
The confrontation occurred at the Faculty of Arts when a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, attempted to pass by a student, Goddy Mbakwe Precious, who was dancing and recording a TikTok video in the corridor. Reports indicate that the lecturer tapped her on the shoulder, saying, “Excuse me,” as he walked past.
Eyewitnesses say the student reacted angrily, expressing displeasure over the manner in which she was tapped. The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument and eventually a physical fight. The student allegedly grabbed the lecturer’s clothes and bit him on the wrist and arm before onlookers intervened.
In response to the viral video circulating on social media, the university’s management released a statement emphasizing its commitment to discipline and justice. Acting Vice-Chancellor Joseph Ikechebelu has ordered a full-scale, transparent investigation into the matter.
The statement reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to maintaining high moral and ethical standards while ensuring that appropriate action is taken based on the findings.
Students and members of the public have been urged to remain calm as the investigation unfolds.
